Love those headphones (their earbuds are great too). It doesn’t surprise me that Marco, the maven, is a Sennheiser guy.
I love them too - and pretty much for all the same reasons that Marco lists: great sound, cancel out external noise, and super comfortable. I’ve had two pairs in about 5 years. The last pair died because I kept taking them home over the weekend...

Kindle 2 Review
a palpable stigma here associated with a person who does not read actual literature. It was beginning to get me down. “Maybe,” I thought, being fully aware of my status as technology-obsessed lunatic, “if I bought a Kindle 2, I would start reading more.” A justification I confidently used in my purchase of same object. Have to say, for me, it’s absolutely true. I’ve read more in...

When I was growing up, I’d go down to La Jolla to visit my grandparents and watch MTV for 13 hours a day (this was when the channel first started). This video would come on at least eighteen times. That’s why I find this funny.

Comments or No Comments?
marco:
“The main reason I don’t allow comments is that I want to inspire debate. I think people do their best writing when they’re forced to defend their ideas on their own turf. It’s one thing to leave a comment on someone else’s blog, but quite another to put your argument in front of your own readers. It forces a level of consideration that, without fail, results in a higher quality exchange...

We Pass
What I think your readers might find interesting is that we all abide by many of the same under the table rules. Of course some readers have their own pet peeves as you mentioned you also do, but that can and does work both ways. Sometimes it’s the pet peeve that makes us go ahead and read the rest of the damn thing and sure enough, 99.99999999% of the time, the script is so bad, we’ll all sit...

On Coincidences in Storytelling
I would argue that Jamal’s knowing the right answers falls into my category of a Premise Coincidence, much the same way that in Die Hard, John McClane just happens to be in the building when the villains attack, or in the original Spider-Man, Peter Parker just happens to get bitten by the radioactive spider. In each of these cases, the coincidence is the reason why the story is happening.

Inspiration for Benjamin Button
Finished reading the original short story of Benjamin Button and I have to say — the film was far better. Still, these last couple of paragraphs really capture the essence of what I thought was so great about the film - the nature of memories and the assumed linearity that goes with them.
You can see where they were inspired:
There were no troublesome memories in his childish sleep; no...

Was Mr. Potter Right After All? →
nickdouglas:
Portfolio ruins It’s A Wonderful Life because let’s face it, watching that movie now is awkward.
“Perhaps Mr. Potter, in the absence of sufficient regulatory oversight, was the one voice of sanity keeping the good people of Bedford Falls from over-leveraging themselves.”
OK, now I’ve GOT to find some way to come up with the money for a PS3 - this looks hot! Killzone 2: Storm the Beach
